Lavender Silkies

This color is a whole new game! I am not smart when it comes to chicken genetics and colors but I know horses. What I know is this color is like a double dilute horse if it is breeding true. This color can dilute many things and this is why it will become a very important variety . I hope the breeding and utilizing of this color continues on because it will help create some of the wonderful other colors that you see on other breeds of chickens. There is nothing like released creativity! If people are not creative and accepting of some of these new varieties they will become stagnate and so will the breed! We are not one for causing grief over a off colored bird. Actually I think they are pretty cool no matter what color they are.
In December of 2007 at the Shawnee, Ok. show I purchased two lavender colored cockerels from Bren of Cozy Silkies. Both healthy birds!    There is a lot to be said about the creation of this color but..... I would prefer to give direct links or even direct from some of the creators and breeders that have invested a lot of time in this color. By presenting the facts it can help us understand breeding better birds. There have been many things stated about this color but the example below is the color.
The photos below is a Lavender - Self Blue owned by Bren at Cozy Silkies and Deb Steinberg at Fawke's Feather Farm.
